Zadok the Priest was composed for the coronation of George II of Great Britain in 1727 using texts from the King James Bible. It is one of four Coronation Anthems that Handel composed. It has been sung at every subsequent British coronation during the sovereign's anointing.
The anthem is written for SSAATBB choir and orchestra.
