Creation - Die Schöpfungn (Hob. 21:2)

Die Schöpfung (German: The Creation) was written between 1796 and 1798, and considered by many to be Haydn's masterpiece. The oratorio depicts the creation of the world as described the Book of Genesis and in John Milton's Paradise Lost. It is scored for SATB Choir and STB soloists and orchestra. (NB there is an Alto soloist scored for just 4 bars in the final movement).

The Creation was composed and originally published to be sung in English or German. The way the notes are sung can vary considerably from one language to the other, yet with the same orchestral accompaniment. It is for this reason that we supply separate recordings to suit English and German librettos. For this we have two sections :

  • Recordings for use with the English Libretto
  • Recordings for use with the German Libretto

These recordings are made for German libretto, please see The Creation for English Libretto version.

We supply everything for choir, and for the soprano, tenor and bass soloists.

  • All the parts for the chosen voice with the orchestral accompaniment. The solo part is played on a wind instrument

  • NB An Alto soloist is introduced for a small part during the "Amen" in the final chorus. This part is provided free of charge.

Accompaniment :

  • The complete oratorio (including overture) with orchestral accompaniment and organ assistance for choir
  • The complete oratorio with orchestral accompaniment without any instrumental assistance for singers. (As the orchestra plays) This recording can be used for both the English and German libretto
